August 19 was a very active day on the porgy front near Plum Island for the Lapuchin family. Randy helps daughter Jenna fight a feisty jumbo and wife Vicky shows what they look like in the boat.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Friday morning August 12, 2005 Joe Abruzzo with son Jesse and daughter Tyler went after stripers. Jesse and Tyler landed the 35.5 lb cow and with their father's help show it off. The Cassetta boys, Harry (10 years old) and Zachary weren't far behind and landed a 27.5 pound cow which their father Ralph helps them display. In addition they loaded up with jumbo porgies and bluefish for a thrill packed 3/4 day trip.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saturday morning Steve Lorras and his son Nick had lots of action in Plum Gut and The Race. Nick shows a 27 inch striper that he carefully and quickly released. They loaded up with jumbo porgies between 13 and 15 1/2 inches and bluefish. A 5 gallon pail of porgies equaled 21 fish. On Saturday, August 6, 2005 the Ott family from Houston Texas had a great time catching jumbo porgies and bluefish galore. Clockwise from upper left, Laura, Ashley,  Kevin (5 years old) and Kimberly display some of their porgy catch. Mom and Dad also added to the catch. Tuesday, August 2, 2005, Theresia Sanchez brought her sister Jennifer and nephews Mike (upper left), DJ (lower left) and niece Chris out on the Coyote to introduce them to fishing. They had lots of action with bluefish and short stripers that were released carefully and quickly. What a great way for kids to get into fishing!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sunday Morning July 31, 2005 was a great time for Cal Crary's bachelor party in Plum Gut. Above he helps Jeremy Newell show off his 11 lb 4 oz weakfish caught on a diamond jig. Jared Newell bagged a 10 lb striper and adequate bluefish were caught for the grill with numerous ones carefully released. The group, John Crary (left) Cal, Jared, Jeremy, Captain Jim House and Chris Chaix shared in a memento photo back at the dock.

Below the reason for all the action was dense schools of bait mainly consisting of anchovies but mixed in were juvenile butterfish, bunker and squid.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Friday, July 29, 2005 a group from Keyspan had an action packed day catching bluefish, striped bass and fluke. Mike Loos bagged the biggest fluke of the day, a 7.5 pound beauty that gave him some bragging rights.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tuesday night, July 19, 2005 Matt Rakowski and father Dr. Richard had a great time catching striped bass and bluefish. They kept, for the table, their limit of stripers in the 29 to 32 inch range and released several fish.  Matt released, unharmed, the 37 pound cow held by mate Dan Izzo. Dr. Richard released a fish in the 25 pound range.

 

 

 

 

Bob Cupani (second from left) and his friends took advantage of the waxing moon and waxing fishing on July 18, 2005, by capturing their limit of stripers. Several big fish were landed including  35 and 34 pound cows by Daren Steiner (far right), a 32 pounder by Bud Loecher (third from right), a 31 pound linesider by Don O'Shea (third from left) a 28 pounder by Craig Cupani (second from right). Joe Lupinachi (left) and Bob Cupani (second from left) had a great time catching their keepers also..

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pete and Christine Cuervo and their families had a great night of striper and bluefishing on July 16, 2005.  Here the newlyweds are very happy with their catch. After a slow start on the July moon the party of five took home 6 striped bass and several bluefish.

A very happy Tim Gage Jr.(12 years old) shows, with the help of Tim Sr., one of his two striped bass that he bucktailed on July 6, 2005; It was Tim's first striper. His brother, Don, also caught his first striper. All said and done, it was an unforgettable night of striper and bluefish action in The Race.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Friday, June 30, 2005 was a memorable day for Andrew Cappellino when he hooked and landed an 8 lb 8 oz doormat fluke using a white bucktail in Plum Gut. His Father, Mark, mother Cindy, brother Matt and Mike Laspia caught a fine bunch of fish, some of which are shown above.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tuesday night, June 21, 2005, Rick Harbick's group had a great time catching stripers in The Race. Donna Rudolph landed a 35 pound cow and Tom Decillis landed a 29.5 pound beauty.

 

 

 

Scott Mirabella and 5 friends went home with 7 stripers on Saturday night June 18, 2005. Scott Messina (left) won the pool with a 20 lb 9 oz striper but Ron Cardella (right) was close behind with a bass of 20 lb 3 oz.; Adam Mirabella shows off another close contender.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This 43 pound striper was caught by the tag team of Rich Schreiner (left) and Evan Petkanos on Friday night  June 17, 2005 on an eel in The Race. Rich hooked the cow, and being a southpaw, struggled with a right-handed reel until he tagged Evan who landed the girthy linesider. Paul Mishtos group went home with lots of memories and bags of stripers and bluefish.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thursday night, June 16, 2005,  the Brookside Environmental group picked up 6 stripers and some short fish. Glen Bernhard had 25 and 24 pound beauties. The bite finally began to pick up after 10 days of sweltering heat.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chuck Cohen's group limited out on stripers in The Race then caught a nice bunch of fluke in Peconic Bay. From left, Anthony Iadevaia, Randy Tremble, Matt Satchell, Chuck, Paul Friedman and Bill Jorgensen. Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2005 was a great day for Pete Hughes who bagged a 10 lb 5 oz. doormat near Orient Harbor. Steve Schaffer captured a 5 lb 3 oz beauty and his father also contributed to the catch.

 

 

Tom Hogan and family had a great day on the Coyote Sunday, May 29, 2005. They focused mainly on fluke in Peconic Bay. Ralph Cassetta had the high hook that included a double with fluke of 5 and 3.5 pounds that were cleverly netted by mate Tony Salerno. Gene Kelly had a 4.5 pound fluke. Their catch included 14 fluke, several fine eating snapper blues and 5 stripers from Plum Gut and The Race.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saturday, May 28 Pete Izzo (center) and friends Pete Sonorto (left) and Joe Depalo had loads of fluke action in the Ocean. They safely returned over 40 shorts and kept 8 fluke. Joe had the largest fluke at 6.8 pounds. Among the catch was a 2 pound ling.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On Monday, May 23, 2005 the Brookside Environmental Group with Dick Taylor had another great day on the Coyote.

They limited out on striped bass in an hour and a half then turned to catching 13 fluke the rest of the beautiful day.

Glen Bernhart shows off his even 10 lb doormat; he also caught a 7.5 lb beauty. Dick Taylor caught a 5.5 pounder.

Sunday, May 22, 2005 Peter Nguan had the largest bass of 21.5 pounds. Chris Bazinet's group went home with their limit of beautiful spring stripers; from the left, Miles Axton, Oliver and Chris Bazinet, Peter Nguan, Jeremy Bazinet and Doc Stalter showing part of their catch.

 

 

 

 

This 5.7 pound fluke put a smile on Joe Turano's face on Friday, May 20, 2005. His group of 5 also brought home 8 fine striped bass.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thursday, May 12, 2005 Tom Luciano fished with Henry Newell and friends when he bagged a nice brace of fluke of 4.6 and 4.7 pounds. What a great way to start the 2005 season!
