On a Red Hot Night Bass Trip, September 18, 2002, (clockwise from the top left) Bob Strovink, Chris Smith, Dale Baker, Tom Williams (26.7 lbs), and Glen Applebee (29.8 lbs) had a banner night in The Race with their limit of stripers averaging about 23 lbs.

The remains of hurricane Gustav passed through our area Wednesday September 11, 2002 with winds over 50 knots. Left at Duck Pond Point, Long Island Sound, 6 to 7 foot waves with crests over 100' apart make a 24 foot rock look pretty small. Also, six footers hitting the beach at Duck Pond Point.

 

 

 

Stefani Tartaro had a memorable day when among other fish, she hooked and skillfully landed  her first fluke, a 5.2 pounder caught in Long Island Sound on a squid/spearing combination on September 4, 2002..

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jeanna Mondello caught her first bass of 21.6 lbs and a second one of 17 pounds in The Race on August 21, 2002. Heath Pappafliou is helping her hold the catch.

Phil Curcio was very happy to land this 7.1 pound fluke caught in Peconic Bay on Father's Day (6/16/02) while fishing with Peter, Gabe and Anthony Johnston.. The big girl went for a teaser.

Lynn Beavers is gaining a reputation as the Coyote Fluke Queen with her great technique. She bagged this 8.4 pound doormat on June 4, 2002.

 

 

 

 

Elijah Beavers had a great day decking striped bass on June 4, 2002. Here he is with a nice 14.5 pounder.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Carol Currier caught her first ever Striped Bass using a bucktail in Plum Gut on June 1, 2002.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Susan Sineo hooked and landed her first striper, a 21 pounder, on a bucktail in Plum Gut on May 21, 2002.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Joe Falleti captured this 5.4 pound flattie using a squid/spearing combination on June 3, 2002 near Shelter Island.

 

 

 

 

 

On May 30, 2002, Tom Colandra decked this 7.1 pound fluke and another 7.1 pounder within 200 feet of each other. The first one was Tom's biggest fluke so what was the second?

 

 

 

 

 

 

Gus Passarella had a great day with North Fork Doormats as shown by his 6.9 and 8.3 pound beauties that he skillfully duped.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Happy Lynn Beavers bagged this 7.9 pound doormat in Peconic Bay using a combination of squid and spearing on May 8, 2002.

 

 

 

 

 

Jamie Schnaieder was very pleased with his 6.3 and 7.2 pound doormat that he decked on May 9 in Peconic Bay. There have been consistent catches of quality fluke so far this year.

Blackfishing continues to be great from the North Fork as shown by Tom Sheren's group which limited out on Tuesday, November 26, 02. Jay McGee (left), Jake Barker, Bob Neiss, Tom, Darrin Skrezec and Rob Lombard show some of their catch of togs.

 

 

 

 

 

Wednesday November 13, 2002 was a windy day from the north and Drs. Gerry Zummo (left), Bill Summo, William Muchlin and Dave Prentice caught their Connecticut limit of blackfish. The biggest fish was 7.1 pounds with several fish over 5 pounds.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Phenomenal blackfishing continues from Orient Point. Jared Stockwell captured an 8.2 lb tog on his first blackfishing trip to win the pool with the second from last fish caught. Dave Bloom decked a photogenic 6.9 lb tog while he and his friends Ken Eisenstein, Bernie Osofsky, Bob Kish, Vinnie Cuccia and Dave again bagged their limit of 50 blackfish, many of which were above 5 pounds,  and some gorilla blues and bass in Long Island Sound on November 9, 2002.

 

 

Sunday November 3, 2002 was a good day for blackfishing for Henry Newell (right) and his friends, Pete Hughes, George Foster and Paul Micheli. They caught their Connecticut limit plus more blackfish in NY and mixed it in with some gorilla bluefish activity.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

John Kaiser duped an 8.7 lb blackfish with a green crab on a wintery November 2, 2002. Doug Woelk, Mark Jennerich, John Kaiser, Dave McGinn, Dough Shenlin and Keith Gaudioso display some of their limit of togs ranging from 5 to 8.7 pounds.
